SoGlosWeddings spoke to some of Gloucestershire’s best wedding make-up artists including Anna White, Heidi Vince, Di McDonald, and Madeline Jones from Wedding Paint, to get the lowdown on the key seasonal looks for brides walking down the aisle.
1. Bright lips
If you want to make a statement with your wedding day make-up then opting for a bold lipstick paired with simple eyes and flawless skin is a beautiful bridal look.
‘I think we will see lipsticks taking on a bold look, spanning pinks for the day to standout reds for evenings. Buildable colours, that can get stronger as we go through the season, will be popular,’ says Heidi.
‘Orangey red is a beautiful colour for summer weddings and compliments a lovely sun-kissed complexion,’ adds Anna, while Madeline predicts that the 2016 Pantone of the Year will also be a hit with brides: ‘Marsala is one of the biggest trends for this season; I particularly love Nars and Chanel lip colours.’
If you’re in search of some celebrity inspiration look to Taylor Swift who masters the art of wearing bold lipstick, especially her signature red shade, with aplomb.
2. Purple tones
Plum-hued lips and lilac eyes were both strong looks on the runway for spring and summer and were spotted on models at the Vera Wang and Matthew Williamson shows.
‘The biggest make-up trend for this perfect plum look, with the rich romantic shade a favourite on the catwalk,’ predicts Anna.
If you want to go for a less dramatic lip or eye colour but still like the idea of incorporating purple tones into your big day look, consider it for your nails instead, which will look striking against your white wedding dress while offering a more gentle reference to the trend.
3. Cat eyes
The winged eye liner look is a perennial style that’s proving to be an on-trend choice for spring and summer brides this year. It’s also the perfect look for those wanting to channel a vintage vibe on their special day.
‘A very popular look for brides at the moment is the smoky cat eye with slightly more dramatic black eyeliner. This is great for a bride that really wants to accentuate and define the eye while keeping the rest of the make-up minimal,’ says Anna.
For a slightly different take, Madeleine suggests introducing subtle tones of colour: ‘Mauve and pastel greens are very in for the eyes along with black eyeliner and a noticeable thickish flick.’
